One community, stronger together.

Our Goals

  • To be an inspiring presence in the wider community, to which young musicians will aspire and find new ways to express themselves
  • To perform frequently at community events throughout the area
  • To commission and perform works from composers of under-represented groups within classical music
  • To facilitate collaborative and mentor-mentee relationships: both from professionals to our members, and our members to younger students
  • To provide master classes, sectionals, visits to other orchestras,  plus other educational opportunities from world-class musicians
  • To support local businesses through partnerships

Northern New Jersey Youth Orchestras

Harambee Chamber Orchestra is affiliated with Northern NJ Youth Orchestras, now in its 25th Year under the direction of Todd Van Beveren. Its other orchestras include Ravina Youth Symphony, Varsity Orchestra, and The New Generation Orchestra. The young musician is taken from beginner — in partnership with the Suzuki programs offered at South Orange-Maplewood Adult Schools — through increasingly challenging music starting with New Generation Orchestra. Varsity Orchestra takes the student further, building skills within a string orchestra setting, while Ravina Youth Symphony focuses on core symphonic repertoire.
